January 27 - Troop 29 Merit Badge Mini Camp
We had previously communicated that we would be travelling to a Camp in CT for the day. We have noted that most of the merit badges that the Scouts were requesting can be taught here in town by our own Troop's MB Councilors. We have decided to find space (TBD) here in Franklin and conduct the MB ourselves. This will save both time (5 hours there and back) and money ($45 per Scout). We will probably get pizza for lunch that day, but please feel free to bring your own lunch if you do not want or cannot eat pizza.
The format is still TBD but we are thinking there will be a couple of classes in the morning, then a lunch break, then part 2 of those classes in the afternoon. This will allow us up to 3 hours per class, but will break it up a bit as well.
- 8:30 - 10:00 Class A
- 10:00 - 11:30 Class B
- Lunch
- 12:00 - 1:30 Class A (part 2)
- 1:30 - 3:00 Class B (part 2)
The final list of classes will be announced shortly, but we are thinking that Programming and Nuclear Science will definitely be offered. The others will most likely be either Camping, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in Society, Family Life. Scouts can choose two MB to work on that day. There may be some follow up in order to complete the merit badges, but hopefully this will provide a good start.
February 10th - Mayflower Council Klondike Derby
This will be a day trip to Camp Squanto in Plymouth. We will be leaving VERY early in the morning in order to get to camp, register, and get our sleds ready for inspection. We will be working on some of the skills needed to complete these events over the course of the next few weeks. Please be on the lookout for a Signup Genius for the Klondike Derby
Start to think Summer Camp!
I know we are a ways out from going to Summer Camp, however the planning needs to start happening much sooner. We are planning to return to our Tuocs Campsite at Camp Threepoint within the Yawgoog Scout Reservation. We will be there week 5 which runs from July 21 - July 27th.
NEWS Just in From Yawgoog HQ - Camp will only be from Sunday to Saturday this year! There will be a new schedule this year with an earlier check in time on Sunday. Similar to Squanto we will do our swim tests and troop pics on Sunday afternoon, as well as a Sunday evening welcome to camp show.
Merit Badges will start right after breakfast on Monday morning and will be completed by Friday at lunchtime.
There will be some new MBs this year as well. You can check out the
2024 Merit Badge Schedule and start planning what your Scout will work on this summer!
